Jack VK5KVA kindly tested analog single sideband against FreeDV RADEV1 at a series of reducing power levels. We are 560km apart and this was recorded in the middle of the day on 40m. You'll hear how much easier digital voice can be to listen to compared with analog radio.
I think we could go to even lower power levels and still have a good conversation on FreeDV RADEV1.

Wow, that's a lot of difference. I'm surprised, really surpised. I need to install freeDV myself and test with it. Although I love the analog HF the QRM heard on your video is not atmospheric, it is just annoying electrical noise from the neighbourhood we all experience these days. It is incredible how far digital voice has come. 73, Bas PE4BAS
It's amazing technology Bas. As you say, all of us are affected by local electrical noise. I think mine is from our solar panels which have micro-inverters.
