I've been running my WSPR station on a new Ubuntu Desktop 10.10 install on an MSI laptop and for mysterious reasons hadn't been spotting anyone or being spotted. I could see strong traces though.
Happily, this is now fixed quite markedly:
My thanks go out to Nick, VK2DX who wrote to point out that my clock was off.
It turns out that this Ubuntu install does not include the NTP daemon.
I think this may cause problems for other software as well.

Hi,
I just wanted to say that is a great post you did! I was surprised to see that you use Ubuntu, especially the latest one! I've been into reading about Ubuntu since last year when Linux Magazine brought out their first issue of Ubuntu User, which I still buy when it is released every 3 months!
I'm planning on buying a new computer in the future. I'm going to be dual-booting Ubuntu with Windows 7 (with Ubuntu as the main OS), except with both Operating Systems on 2 separate hard drives rather than partitions! At the moment, I just have an old Windows XP computer without Ubuntu, so I look forward to trying it! Do you like Ubuntu 10.10?
As I said, this is a great post and I look forward to reading more of your blog!
