The case has 3.5mm sockets for everything and also an RJ45 socket for a single cable connection. It's like the Signalink boxes and has a similar internal jumper system for wiring it. I followed the instructions and quickly had it working with my FT817.
The button marked "select" on the front switches between analog passthrough (so you can hear what the radio hears) and digital mode.
To test transmission, I listen off air and decode with the FreeDV app. My scatter plot looks reasonable I think:
I can hear my voice decoded so the next step is some contacts on 14.236 where I'm listening and calling.
Notes:
- Mic Gain control operates in reverse.
- Select button switches between analog and digital. On power on it defaults to analog.
- Back button isn't used.



Hello Peter I'm about to try and get my school club on this mode. We have an old 8258 Codan. I was thinking it might be easier to just go thru the mic jack at the front? Would this box help. I will watch the Youtube when I get at home....naughty me at work doing Ham stuff! How much was it?? 73 de VK2AOE
ReplyDeleteYou can certainly feed FreeDV in through an analog port but you should note that FreeDV has moved on to the new RADE mode which uses neural networks for much improved speech quality and HF modem performance. Unfortunately the SM1000 can't run the new modes (nor can the EzDV). You can run it on a Raspberry Pi 4 or later quite well and could interface with something like a Signalink USB or DigiRig device. Now get back to work!
