Restored Reinartz two valve radio

After this morning's WIA news broadcast I got a call from Rob, VK2ZNZ, inviting me to drop in to see a new acquisition. It's a beautiful Reinartz radio. WW1 vintage he thinks.

Apparently these were available in kit form and this one has been well restored and was in working condition. I played with the "reaction" control but couldn't get it to take off so I'm a little suspicious about the circuit. AM stations were audible though.

  1. Sorry to disillusion your friend, this unit is a kit radio made in the early eighties by Technicraft in Katoomba NSW Australia. The kit was written about in the July 1984 issue of Electronics Australia magazine.

It looks like original knobs have been added though which makes it look very much the ww1 radio. The decal is a dead give away though.

    Sorry, it still looks great!!

  3. Ah, what a pity. Still it's a nice thing. Thanks for letting me know, not sure if I'll mention it to Rob.

  4. Peter,
I understand this thread may be very old and you may have moved on - however I am a techy who has recently started to model a valve radio in a 3d application for rendering. I was wondering if it would be possible to send some clearer photos of the radio to my google address: hugh3000(at)googlemail.com

  5. I did visit Robert and took some more photos which were sent to Hct. Robert took a look at the comments from Tim and asked me to say, yes he knows it's a recent re-construction, but thanks.

Robert does have some genuinely very old valves in operation in other receivers these days.

  6. Can confirm my grandad did build me one of these when I was a child and it was in kit form. That would have been 90's
